BES Working at the Smucker’s Factory in Lexington, Ky.!

Asbestos containing insulation surrounding tank.

This is the tank, inulated with asbestos containing materials.

For over 100 years, Smucker’s has been helping make people’s meals, snacks and recipes better.  It all started in 1897 when Jerome Monroe Smucker pressed cider from his mill and, shortly after, sold his first jar of apple butter from the back of a horse-drawn wagon. Today Smucker’s offers a broad range of fruit spreads, ice cream toppings, syrups, peanut butters, and more, including low sugar and sugar free varieties.

BES is proud and pleased to have with JM Smuckers for the second time this year. BES was contracted to remove asbestos containing materials contained in the insulation around the large tanks, containing peanut butter.

From the start JM Smuckers focused on safety and cleanliness above all. We were educated on the companies standards when it came to safety and reducing the chance of contaminating their product. This was not only conforting to me as a worker in their massive factory but as a peanut butter lover and customer. Their professionalism was a testiment to the quality of their product but the fact that they constantly maintain their facility by removing any and all harmful materials, showed their dedication to their employees also. All the way around, the JM Smuckers companies is first class in all areas.

Here are a few pictures of the job we recently did for this woderful Lexington establishment.

Enclosing asbestos before removal/

We first have to enclose the tank, insulated with asbestos.

Containing any and all hazardous materials

Almost finished enclosing the tank.

Contained asbestos.

While removing the asbestos, this ensures that no harmful materials are released into the air and in your peanut butter!

Decontamination Unit

This, 6 part unit in front of the contained tank, allows our technicians to exit the contaminated work space without carrying asbestos out along with them.
