Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Charles Snavely has announced the appointment of John D. Small to the position of Director of the Division of Mine Safety, effective Feb. 22, 2016.
John is a native of Inez, Kentucky, and has spent the past 38 years in management positions in the coal mining industry in eastern Kentucky.
Prior to his retirement in 2015 from Excel Mining, a subsidiary of Alliance Resource Partners LP, John served as Vice President of East Kentucky Operations for nine years.
A graduate of the Leadership Kentucky program, John brings excellent management skills and safety leadership to the Division of Mine Safety.
John has served on the Board of the Kentucky Mining Institute and as President of Post 2 of the Smokeaters mine rescue association.
