FRANKFORT, KY. (April 17, 2015) – Kentucky counties can now apply for $4,000 in waste tire recycling and disposal grants funded through the Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Waste Tire Trust Fund. Eligible expenses under this grant are the actual costs that the county incurs during the grant period for recycling or disposal of waste tires. Other expenses, such as labor and equipment costs, are not eligible. “We encourage all counties to take advantage of this grant opportunity,” said Gary Logsdon, manager of the Division of Waste Management’s Recycling and Local Assistance Branch. “This is a simple and efficient way for the division to assist counties in managing waste tires.” The grant period is July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. Costs incurred by a county beginning July 1, 2015, are eligible if the county submits receipts for those costs when it sends in its closeout report form by July 15, 2016. The waste tire grant does not require a match, but counties must submit grant applications no later than June 1, 2015, to gain eligibility. Grantees will then have until July 15, 2016, to submit the proper expenditure receipts and reports for the grant money. Any unused funds must be returned to the cabinet by July 31, 2016. The grant packets are being sent by email to county judge-executives and solid waste coordinators.
